Christina Caffrey
I became interested in the field of emergency management when I was living in Thailand during the 2004 tsunami and assisted with recovery efforts. I took steps to find a way into the field which led me to deploy in 2011 to Slave Lake Wildfires as my first professional experience in the field.

Since then I have worked for private (oil and gas, finance and insurance), non-profit (Alberta Search and Rescue, public health organizations) and public (municipal government) organizations.

My current position supervises 20+ people whose portfolio includes emergency management, business continuity, risk and issues, as well as information management. This team supports the 8000 people in the Operational Services Department at The City of Calgary.

I have played active roles in municipal EOC openings ranging from small and medium size events to larger events. A sampling of these activations include: 2011 Hurricane Sandy, 2013 southern Alberta floods, 2014 Snowtember Calgary, 2016 Fort McMurray wildfires, 2019 pandemic, 2021 Yukon floods, 2023 Northwest Territories wildfires, 2024 Jasper wildfire.

I believe in focusing on individual resilience to ultimately achieve organizational resilience. I am humbled to work with people who are passionate and committed to the work every day to serve as something larger than the individual. This is why I support the CDRO; as a non-governmental organization who seeks to serve the public good without the influence of profit motives. The collaborative efforts of this team fill critical gaps and build stronger, more resilience communities by providing effective and efficient emergency management support.
