From the Front Lines

On Tuesday 13th July Community Disaster Response Ontario’s Incident Management Team was activated to assist Emergency Management Ontario, in hosting evacuees from Pikangikum First Nation, due to Northern Ontario forest fires.

The CDRO Incident Management was deployed to the Greater City of Sudbury, where they set up an Emergency Operations Centre at Laurentian University. Members of CDRO fulfilled the Section Chief Roles of Planning, Logistics and Finance & Administration.

CDRO contractors were utilized to fulfill the functions of Scribe, Supply Unit Leader, Documentation Unit Leader, Situation Unit Leader and Demobilization Unit Leader.

This deployment has been extremely rewarding as we worked with great partners from, Emergency Management Ontario, Independent First Nations Alliance, Canadian Red Cross, the City of Greater Sudbury, Ontario Health, Laurentian University, and many other supporting agencies.

We continue to sustain the operational rhythm to ensure the response can meet the needs of those unfortunate displaced individuals, until they can return home to their community.
